ABSTRACT
Introduction: The use of non-pharmacological interventions has proven to be a promising alternative for promoting well-being and controlling anxiety, including music therapy, which stands out for its simplicity of application, low cost, and absence of side effects. Objective: To describe, based on the scientific literature, evidence on the benefits of music therapy for patients in the perioperative period. Method: This is an integrative literature review covering the period 2015 to 2025, using the databases of the National Library of Medicine, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, and the Nursing Database, using the descriptors music therapy, perioperative period, and perioperative care. Results: The evidence on the benefits of music for patients in the perioperative period was described in three sections: randomized trials, observational studies, and literature reviews. Conclusion: both observational studies and reviews, as well as experimental studies, presented evidence of the benefits of music therapy in the surgical context, highlighting its potential benefits in reducing anxiety, pain control, positive physiological effects on vital signs and the consequent satisfaction of the perioperative experience
