Abstract

Abstract: The number of morbid obese patients who underwent
bariatric surgery has been increasing nonstop around the globe. There
was an increase in the number of women in childbearing age who
undergo this kind of surgery, assuming that serious complications can
occur, risking the mother’s and fetus’ lives.
Objective: To report a case of pregnancy after bariatric surgery.
Methods: Clinical case study conducted with a Federal District’s
patient, aged 25 years, with a diagnosis of morbid obesity, who got
pregnant three months after undergoing the bariatric surgery, monitored
during six months. Data acquisition was conducted through
medical and nutritional history, taking into consideration other information
in the medic-card.
Results: Certain nutrient had a low rate of concentration in the
blood, such as iron, foliate, and some B vitamins, fat soluble vitamins
and supplements were prescribed to reverse the situation.
Conclusion: Further investigations are needed to establish appropriate
recommendations regarding the monitoring of these pregnancies,
reducing the clinical and nutritional issues in patients undergoing these
procedures, especially when related to women of childbearing age.
