Abstract

Objective: To carry out an integrative literature review on access to palliative care for elderly people with Alzheimer's disease. Method: This is an integrative review using the descriptors "Alzheimer's disease", "palliative care" and "elderly" carried out in Medline, Lilacs, Binacis and Ibecs databases, with a temporary cut of 10 years (2012-2022). Results: 158 articles were found, of which 148 were excluded for not meeting the research criteria, with 10 articles selected to compose this study. Two central points were identified involving the barriers faced by the family in accessing palliative care for elderly people with Alzheimer's Disease, respectively: The lack of knowledge of Alzheimer's Disease as a progressive and irreversible disease that leads to death, therefore with implementation of palliative care and the lack of formal palliative care services for elderly people with AD, especially for those in long-term care facilities. Conclusion: This research was able to understand the challenges and limitations of access of elderly people with Alzheimer's disease to Palliative Care, ranging from the central points obtained in the results to others involving limited knowledge and discussions on the subject.
