Approach to the relationship between care economy and motherhood in SUS workers

Abstract

Objective: Based on the experiences promoted by the Education Program through Work for Health and Equity (PET-SAÚDE, UFMA - Pinheiro), the objective was to report the experience of undergraduate students in approaching the economics of care and motherhood among SUS workers. Methods: This experience report was supervised by a physiotherapist tutor, a dentistry preceptor, three medical students and a nursing student, in which they described the experiences of socio-educational actions carried out in Basic Health Units (UBSs) in the city of Pinheiro, in the state of Maranhão. The presentations were held in the public health services of the city with professionals and patients. Results: The workers present participated in the presentations, explaining their experiences and opinions on the subject, addressing their reality at work. The exchange of experiences among participants highlighted the need to implement public policies that promote gender equity and value working mothers in the healthcare field. Conclusions: The care economy permeates the reality of working women, who face overlapping professional and family demands. This experience demonstrated the importance of deepening this debate, as it was possible to demonstrate that the overload of responsibilities significantly impacts the quality of life of these women.
