Objective: This study evaluated the antibacterial potential of hydrolates from Helietta apiculata and Chromolaena odorata, species native to the Atlantic Forest. Samples were collected in Santa Helena (PR, Brazil), and the hydrolates were obtained as by-products of essential oil steam distillation. Antibacterial activity was tested using the disk diffusion method against Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922 and clinical isolate) and Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923 and clinical isolate). The results showed no inhibition halos in any of the tested combinations, indicating bacterial resistance to the hydrolates. The lack of activity may be related to the low concentration of bioactive compounds or limitations of the extraction method. It is concluded that the hydrolates did not exhibit significant antibacterial effects; however, future studies with different extraction techniques and higher concentrations may reveal greater therapeutic potential of these species.
